MA Dissertation topic: Maximizing Sociocultural Learning Opportunities: Applying the SETT framework in the L2 classroom.
My teaching philosophy is drawn from Sociocultural Theory. Sociocultural Theory focuses on collaborative and interactive characteristics of learning, and values discovery based and task based language, and cooperative learning as effective methodologies. By appropriate use of support and scaffolding in the L2 classroom students can be guided toward autonomy in a positive learning environment. I believe language is a tool used to communicate our thoughts, ideas and feelings, and that the L2 classroom is an ideal place to improve our language skills. I taught in schools in South Korea for seven years, and a further four years at King Saud University in Saudi Arabia, one of the largest language institutes in the world. I love teaching general and academic (EGAP/ESAP) English.
